All eyes on China... again.

With the Asian Games (亚运会 – Yà yùn huì) going on down south in Guangzhou, I figured a post with the Chinese name for some of the events taking place at the games is appropriate. Keep an eye on the blog for Part Seven of my “History of the PRC” series, as well as Part Two of my video about Hohhot, Inner Mongolia. For now, let the games begin!

archery – 射箭 – shè jiàn

badminton – 羽毛球 – yǔ máo qiú

baseball  – 棒球 – bàng qiú

basketball – 篮球 – lán qiú

beach volleyball – 沙滩排球 – shā tān pái qiú

bowling – 保龄球 – bǎo líng qiú

cricket – 板球 – bǎn qiú

diving – 跳水 – tiào shuǐ

dragon boat – 龙舟 – lóng zhōu

fencing – 击剑 – jí jiàn

football – 足球 – zú qiú

golf – 高尔夫球 – gāo ěr fū qiú

karate – 空手道 – kōng shǒu dào
rugby – 橄榄球 – gǎn lǎn qiú
shooting – 射击 – shè jí
swimming – 游泳 – yóu yǒng
table tennis – 乒乓球 – pīng pāng qiú
tae kwan do – 跆拳道 – tái quán dào
tennis – 网球 – wǎng qiú
water polo – 水球 – shuǐ qiú
wu shu – 武术 – wǔ shù
For those competing in the games now or hoping to compete later, here is some more useful vocabulary…
gold medal – 金牌 – jīn pái
silver medal – 银牌 – yín pái
bronze medal – 铜牌 – tóng pái

Plenty of Gold Medals for Team China.
