My Last Vacation (Part Two) Posted by sasha on Sep 20, 2012 in Culture, Uncategorized, Vocabulary
In the first part of my last vacation story, we hung out in Chengdu – dancing with the locals, eating spicy hot pot, and of course, admiring the incredibly cute pandas. From there, we spent a few days enjoying the scenery of Ping Le Ancient Town, where we walked along the river, hiked up a Buddhist mountain, and visited a traditional tea farm. For part two, we head to the far north of Sichuan province.
Again, the first part is all in Chinese, which are displayed in a larger font size to help you learn to better recognize the characters. Then, you’ll find the entire story again, in smaller characters with pin yin to help you out with those characters you don’t know yet. Finally, you’ll find the English translation.

English Translation:
The 6th day:
We took the bus from Chengdu to Jiuzhaigou. Our driver drove the bus so quickly, and we arrived in only 9 hours. On the way there, we saw yaks. The scenery was beautiful.
At Jiuzhaigou, we stayed in a Tibetan guest house. That night we had a rest, took a shower, and then went to eat dinner. We drank yak butter tea, and ate beef and eggplant. That was our first time drinking yak butter tea, it was so tasty.
The 7th day:
We woke up very early. First we went to the supermarket to buy some things, and then we took a cab to Jiuzhaigou. Jiuzhaigou is a famous national park. Since it was the weekend, there were so many people. Inside the park there are nine small villages, and the people are all Tibetans.
Jiuzhaigou is very big. We took the bus a little, and we walked a little. There were too many people riding the bus, and few people walking. Jiuzhaigou is very beautiful. It has mountains, lakes, waterfalls, and also many trees and flowers.
The 8th-11th days:
We joined a small tour group, and went hiking together in Zharu Valley. Our tour guide was Tibetan. We carried our backpacks all day while hiking, and everyone was so tired. We lived in a small shack. First, the tour guide started a fire by himself, and then he cooked dinner. We ate, drank, and chatted together. At 8 o’clock in the evening, everyone went to sleep.
In the morning on the second day, we ate something after we got up and then we headed out. Since it was raining, the road that we used that day was very difficult. It took us four hours of walking to reach the top of the mountain. The scenery there was so beautiful. According to Tibetans, that’s a very important mountain. That evening, we lived in a different shack.
On the last day we saw so many yaks and horses. In the afternoon, we went to a small village. The local people cooked a very delicious lunch. After lunch, we rode bicycles back to Jiuzhaigou.
In the evening, we joined in a party. We ate grilled lamb, drank wine, sang songs, and danced. It was so much fun!
The 11th day:
We took a bus from Jiuzhaigou to Huanglong. Huanglong is also a national park. First, we took the cable car, and then we walked. Huanglong’s scenery was unforgettable.
In the afternoon we took a bus to Chuan Zhu Si. As soon as we arrived, we found a place to stay. In the guesthouse we had a rest and took showers.
After showering, we walked around the area. Chuan Zhu SI is very quiet. The local people were very friendly. We had dinner in a Lanzhou Noodle restaurant. The owner of the restaurant chatted with us.
That evening, we relaxed by the side of the river.
The 12th day:
First we had breakfast, and then we got a cab to the airport. From Jiuhuang airport to Chengdu only took 45 minutes. At the Chengdu airport, we ate lunch, read books, and listened to music. At 8 o’clock in the evening we headed back to Beijing.
