Pingyao Ancient City – Part One Posted by on Apr 29, 2011 in Culture

Located in central Shanxi province, Pingyao is an ancient Chinese city that was once at the forefront of the Chinese economy during both the Ming and Qing dynasties. Thanks to its status as a UNESCO World Heritage site, this ancient city has retained much of its traditional look and feel. Surrounded by the old city wall, Pingyao provides a glimpse into Chinese cities of the past, with numerous museums, temples, and courtyards open to the public. For Part One of our journey through this historic city, check out the old city wall, a few of the museums, and, of course, sample the local food!

我们先坐巴士从太原. 然后,我们坐黄包车到酒店
wǒ men xiān zuò bāshì cóng tài yuán. rán hòu, wǒ men zuò huáng bāo chē dào jiǔ diàn.
First, we rode a bus from Tai Yuan. Then, we rode a rickshaw to our hotel.

rú guǒ nǐ mǎi le yī zhāng piào, nǐ kě yǐ kàn dào suǒ yǒu de dì fāng.
If you buy one ticket, you can see all of the places.

在中国,山西面是非常有名的 – zài zhōng guó, shān xī miàn shì fēi cháng yǒu míng de.
In China, Shanxi noodles are very famous.

她点了拉面. 我点了他们的特色菜,叫莜面栲栳佬
tā diǎn le lā miàn. wǒ diǎn le tā men de tè sè cài, jiào yóu miàn kǎo lǎo lǎo.
She ordered pulled noodles. I ordered their specialty, called “Diao Mian Kao Lao Lao.”

我们先自己加辣椒, 然后他们烤它. – wǒmen xiān zì jǐ jiā là jiāo, rán hòu tā men kǎo tā.
First, we add the spice ourselves. Then, they grill it.
