Do you like listening to music? (你喜欢听音乐吗? – nǐ xǐ huān tīng yīn yuè ma). Do you like listening to Chinese songs? (你喜欢听中文歌吗? – nǐ xǐ huān tīng zhōng wén gē ma). Listening to music is a great way to enhance your language studies. Even if you don’t understand all of the lyrics, it’s beneficial. Listening to Chinese songs and watching the music videos also provides a good insight into the culture. In this post, we’ll take a look at the top Chinese songs of 2018.

Making the List

To compile this list, I used the Global Chinese Pop Chart (全球华语歌曲排行榜 – quán qiú huá yǔ gē qǔ pái háng bǎng). This is compiled by seven different Chinese language radio stations across Asia. It includes C-Pop, Mandopop, Cantopop, and Hokkien Pop.

I chose the ten songs that had the most success on the chart last year (most weeks at #1). The list is in no particular order. For each song, I did my best to find the official music video or a live performance, as well as a KTV-style video. I also tried to get the lyrics in simplified characters along with pinyin and English translations. It’s a lot to digest in one post, so I’m splitting it up into two with five songs each. Alright, now let’s get to the music!
