I am the first one to admit that you almost have to find Holland with a binoculair on the map. But this doesn’t mean our little country and our language doesn’t matter. For everyone who has no idea why people would want to learn the Dutch language, let me give you some reasons.

1. It looks good on your resume.

Knowing more languages always impress people. You can proudly present your English, but to be honest: who doesn’t speak English nowadays? Languages that are less common tend to be appreciated more, so dive into the study books and impress your boss with your Dutch.

1. Holland is an important European country.

We might not be big or have weapons of mass destruction (as far as I know), but we do count. Holland is a rich and influencial country with enough to say in this world. Speaking our language is definitely something worthwhile.

1. You can use it in different countries.

Holland is not the only Dutch speaking country. You can use your language skills in South Africa, Aruba, Bonaire, Curacao, Saba, St. Eustatius, Sint Maarten and Surinam.

1. Impress your friends and family.
   We will all deny it, but let’s face it: we all want to impress. Speaking a foreign language in one of the ways to do it, so dive into the world of the Dutch.
2. Acceptance by the society.

Yes, almost all of us speak Dutch and yes, we are liberal when it comes down to our foreign visitors, but just like all the other countries, we really appreciate if you speak our language, or at least try. So if you want to be accepted by our society even more, learning about our culture and language is very much appreciated.
