Today we are going to look at a number of different ways you can let people know you are happy. Of course you could just look up synonyms for the word happy and say something like:

I’m content.
I’m glad.
I’m delighted.
I’m overjoyed.
I’m elated.
I’m ecstatic.

But, if you want to be more creative and really show off your English language skills I have some more colorful expressions and phrases you can use to talk about people being happy and let other people know how happy you are on a special day, like: a birthday, wedding, graduation, after getting a promotion at work, when your child is born, if you win the lottery, etc.

Happy expressions:

happy as a clam =  very happy
This expression is sometimes said “Happy as a clam at high tide.” which gives it a little more context to the expression, as clams must be very happy in the water.
Example: Jan is happy as a clam when she gets to leave work an hour early on Friday afternoons.

happy as can be = can not be happier
Example: Bob was happy as can be as he sat on a rock fishing in the sun.

a happy camper = content
Example: Millie is a happy camper as long as she can watch her favorite TV show each week.

walking on sunshine = very happy
Example: I’m walking on sunshine today because I just found out that I passed my entrance exam.

on cloud nine = a state of blissful happiness
Example: Jean was on cloud nine when Ben asked her to marry him.

tickled pink = delighted
This expression likely comes from the fact that some people’s faces turn red or pink when they are excited/happy.
Example: Elizabeth was tickled pink to finally meet her new niece for the first time.

bursting at the seams with happiness = overjoyed
This expression implies that one is so full of happiness it is breaking through (i.e. bursting through) their clothes to come out.
Example: Joe looked like he was bursting at the seams with happiness as he told us all about his engagement.

in seventh heaven = a very happy state
Example: I was in seventh heaven when my dad gave me the keys to the car and said it was mine.
