For this post I have collected a number of great Ted Ed videos about the English language that are perfect for ESL learners.

These videos are all in English, about English, and provide short lessons (3-5 minutes) on English grammar or language. Each one has something to offer ESL learners from beginners to near-native speakers. Before the video link I give a brief summary of what each video is about. I hope you enjoy them all!

Ted Ed videos for ESL students:

The apostrophe in English can be used in three ways: to show possession, to make words contractions, and to make the plural of single alphabet letters. In this video there are great examples of how the apostrophe is used to help clear up confusion.

‘Me,’ ‘myself,’ and ‘I’ are all words that refer to the same person – the first person! This video looks at how these pronouns are used in different ways by looking at the grammar of some English sentences.

The semi-colon is part-comma and part-colon, and wholly a confusing English punctuation mark. It will not be confusing to you after watching this video where you will learn about the many strengths of the semi-colon.

If you have ever thought, ‘English spelling is just crazy’, you are not alone. There are a lot for silent letters and oddly spelled words in English. This video looks at one strangely spelled English word: ‘doubt’. This video explains why there is a silent ‘b’ in this word, while offering viewers a new appreciation for why English has some funny looking words on the whole.
