There are no rhymes here I fear Posted by on Jul 18, 2013 in English Language

Today I have a post for you, that won’t take up too much of your time,

It is about words in English that have no other rhyme.

Some of these words you will know and some will be new,

But they will be good to learn so you know what to do,

If you ever write a poem, you will want to leave these words out,

Because trying to find another word to rhyme with them will surely make you shout!

So, here we go, don’t read too slow, these are all words you will want to know!

(Remember a rhyme is when there is a repetition of similar sounds at the end of two or more words. For example, time and rhyme, new and do, go, slow, and know)

Words in English that have no rhyme:

angry

anxious

chimney

circle

elbow

empty

engine

film

husband

month

orange

olive

penguin

problem

purple

rhythm

sandwich

secret

silver

sixth

twelfth

wolf

woman

Now there are plenty of other words in English that also don’t have rhymes, but these are some of the most common ones I could think of.  If you are ever trying to write a poem and want to use one of these words you could try to find a synonym, but that is hard to do with some of these words like: sixth, twelfth, purple, orange, elbow, silver, etc. which are all pretty unique words without true synonyms.  Do you know any other words in English that have no rhyme?
