You have already discovered in the French Blogseveral “episodes” that make up l’histoire de France(the History of France), especially the history of the XVII siècle(the 17th century, of course!)
Today, we’ll evoke the “central figure” of that century for France, namely Le Roi Soleil(the Sun King), but not from une perspective historique, but rather a musical one.
The “Roi Soleil” is a play that started in 2005, starring Emmanuel Moire, and has enjoyed quite a success since then
* Le Roi Soleil: “Être à la hauteur” (“To measure up”)
Je me lève jour après jour
I get up day after day
C’est un jour ordinaire
It’s a usual day
J’en connais déjà le cours
I already know its unfolding
Le poids d’un parcours nécessaire
The weight of a necessary trail
Que je dois faire
What am I to do
Parce qu’on n’a jamais le choix Because one has never the choice
Quelle surprise! I have the soundtrack on my MP3 player and computer, and I listen from time to time.
I saw “Le Roi Soleil” twice in 2006, in the space of three weeks, when I spent 3 weeks in Paris. My wife saw it four times, twice in 2005 and twice in 2006. (She has a crush on Emmanuel Moire. I also have his début CD, along with Christophe Maé’s.)
“Être à la hauteur” is one of my favorites, and I will sing along with it if I’m driving and no one else can hear me. 🙂
