Feeling a little hungry? This recipe makes a very tasty snack, or even a meal. This recipe here makes enough for one person.

Useful Vocabulary

to slice, to cut – פָּרַס (pa-ras)
a slice, piece – פְּרוּסָה (pe-ru-sa)
sliced – פָּרוּס (pa-rus)
slices – פְּרוּסָות (pe-ru-sa-ot)
toasted, roasted – קָלוּי (ka-lu-i)
whole wheat – חִטָּה מְלֵאָה (khi-ta me-le-‘a)
bread – לֶחֶם (le-khem)
avocado – אָבוֹקָדוֹ (a-vo-ka-do)
mashed – מָעַךְ (ma-‘akh)
tomato – עַגְבָנִיָּה (‘a-ge-va-nai-ya)
cup – כּוֹס (kos)
shredded – מְגֹרָר (me-go-rar)
mozzarella cheese – גְּבִינָה מוצרלה (ge-vi-na mo-tse-re-la)

Ingredients:

2 slices toasted whole wheat bread
1 avocado mashed up
4 slices tomato
1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

Preparation

1. Put רְדִיד אָלוּמִינְיוּם (re-did ‘a-lu-min-i-um – aluminum foil) on a מַגַּשׁ אֲפִייָה (ma-ga-sh a-fi-ya – baking sheet) to make clean up easier.
2. Spread the mashed avocado on toast, season with מֶלַח (me-lach – salt) and פִּלְפֵּל
(pil-pil – pepper) if desired. Add 2 tomato slices on each piece of toast and top with cheese.
3. Place in the תַּנּוּר (tan-ur – oven) at 350 degrees until cheese is melted and bubbly.

Serve with a piece of פְּרִי (pe-ri – fruit) and you have a fast, easy and nutritious חֲטִיף (kha-tif – snack) or אֲרוּחַת בֹּקֶר (‘aru-khat bo-ker – breakfast) to start your day.

6g of fiber
27 carbs

For פֶּסַח (pe-sach – Passover)

To serve this sandwich during פֶּסַח, use a piece of מַצָּה (ma-tsa – matzah bread) instead of whole wheat bread.

 

*the fat in an avocado is a good fat, so you don’t have to worry about it.
