Let’s have the children sing along! Posted by on Sep 26, 2013 in Learning Hebrew

Today we’re going to let the children get involved. I have a couple of videos of children’s song that are fun to learn and sing. This first one is of a little rabbit who forgot to close the door of his house and caught a cold because of it.

Let’s take a look at the vocabulary first:

Vocabulary

הִצְטַנֵּן – caught cold
מִסְכֵּן – poor
שָׁפָן – rabbit
קָטָן – little
קיבל – received
נַזֶּלֶת – runny nose
שָׁכַח – to forget
שכח – forgot
סָגוּר – close
דֶּלֶת – door
אפצ׳י – the sound of a sneeze / achoo!

Video

Okay, now let’s look at the video and sing along!

This next video is called “מי שטוב לו ושמח“. It means (loosely translated) “Whoever is good and happy”. Americans will recognize the tune from the song “If you’re happy and you know it.” If you’re in another country, what is the name of the song you know that has the same tune?

Vocabulary

Here’s the vocabulary we need:

ש – who, whom
טוֹב – good, kind
לוּ – to him/her
שַׂמֵחַ – happy, joyful
כַּף – palm, hand
מָחָא – clap
לִרְקוֹעַ – stomp
צָחַק – laugh
קָרָא – to call out, shout
הַתְחָלָה – (from) the beginning

Video

מי שטוב לו ושמח – כף ימחא!
(Clap your hands)

מי שטוב לו ושמח – שירקע!
(Stomp your feet)

מי שטוב לו ושמח – שיצחק!
(Laugh)

מי שטוב לו ושמח – שיקרא: הי הופ!
(Say “Hey! ho!”)

ועכשיו עושים הכל מהתחלה – And now do it all over again

מי שטוב לו ושמח
זוכר ולא שוכח – Remember and don’t forget
כי עכשיו עושים הכל מהתחלה – You’re doing it all from the beginning
