The 2011 Cricket World Cup concluded with India defeating Sri Lanka. Congratulation to the Indian cricket team! The cricket games took place in India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. The opening ceremony took place in Bangladesh. The opening ceremony was certainly a grand affair! Good work to all of those who helped put it together! It was quite beautiful and enjoyable to watch! There were all sorts of dances and musical performances that were a feast to the eyes and ears. It’s rumored to have cost around thirty million dollars and it sure looked like it:

The official song of the 2011 Cricket World Cup was De Ghumaa Ke (दे घुमा के). The title of the song means “Swing It Hard”. How appropriate for the occasion! In addition to Hindi, there was a Bangla and Sinhalese version of the song. It was created to have some elements of an Indian folk song, but with a modern twist to it. The song was performed at the opening ceremony. It’s quite catchy!

I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised to see Bryan Adams sing his quintessential “Summer of 69” song. I think the Cricket Committee was aiming to please the Western crowd. They made a good choice and the song went without a hitch.

India defeated Sri Lanka by six wickets. When news got out that India won over Sri Lanka, there was a joyful jubilation in the streets of India and in places like London, where a large Indian population resides. Basically Indians from all parts of the world were celebrating:

Initially India was only scheduled to host the final game. However, Pakistan lost its host status when some security issues arose over Pakistan’s ability to provide a safe venue for the games. As a result, India was able to host twenty nine matches, which significantly contributed to the Indian economy. This World Cup Cricket title is India’s second. If anything, this 2011 World Cup Cricket competition reaffirmed that the Indian cricket team is a solid team. The two men that really contributed to India’s wins are Yuvraj Singh and Zaheer Khan. Here are some highlights of India’a victory over Sri Lanka:
