Char Dham Posted by kunthra on Nov 13, 2010 in Uncategorized
Char Dham (चारधाम) refers to four sacred pilgrimage sites in India. Devoted Hindu followers believe that these sites are holy. If you connect the geographic locations of these four sites on a map, they form a square. Also, each site is dedicated to an incarnation or avatar of Vishnu. As a result, they are considered sacred sites.
Badrinath is located in the Indian state of Uttarakhand. It’s said that the Badrinath Temple is a place revered by the god Vishnu. Therefore Badrinath is considered the most important of all the four sites.
Dwarka is located in the Indian state of Gujarat. The Dwarakadheesh temple is considered the dwelling place of the god Krishna. The Temple is in mint condition despite being built in the 16th century.
Jagannath Puri is located in the Indian state of Orissa. The main attraction is the Jagannath Temple, which is dedicated to Lord Jagannath.
