Today, let me show you the conjunction in Hindi. Let us see, what they mean, how they are classified and how to use them in the sentences through some examples.

In Hindi, Conjunction is called “समुच्चयबोधक” (Samucchy Bodak) which comes from two word, “समुच्चय” which mean combination and “बोधक” which means indicator. These are the words that shows the combination of given type in the given sentence.

Conjunction in Hindi are of 3 types:

1. संयोजक (Sanyojak – Connective)
These conjunctive words join two or more part to form a sentence. These are “और” (aur – and), “एव ” (ev – and) and ” तथा” (tatha – and).

Examples:
a. श्याम और राम एक ही घर में रहते हैं.
Shyam and ram live in same house.
b. राकेश एव रमेश अच्छे मित्र हैं.
Rakesh andRamesh are good friends.
c. सेब तथा नारंगी फल हैं.
Apple and Orange are fruits.

2. विभाजक (Vibhajak – Separative)
These conjunctive words divide a sentence into two or more parts. These are “या” (ya – or), “ताकि” (taaki – so that) and “परन्तु” (parantu – but).

Examples:

a. करो या मरो.
Do or die.
b. परिश्रम से पढ़ाई करो ताकि परीक्षा में सफल हो सको.
Work hard in studies so that you can pass the exam.
c. तुम सुबाह से में कार्यालय हो परन्तु तुमने कुछ काम नहीं किया.
you have been in office since morning but you didn’t do anything.

3. विकल्पसूचक (Vikalp SuchakAlternative Indicator)

These conjunctive words indicate the options in a sentence . These are “या” (ya – or), “अथवा” (athva – or) and “अन्यथा” (anyatha – otherwise).

Examples:

a. तुम काम कर सकते हो या पढ़ाई.
You can do work or study.
b. रोहन अथवा मोहन इधर आओ.
Rohan or Mohan come here.
c. तुम परिश्रम करो अन्यथा असफल हो जाओगे.
Work hard otherwise you will fail.
