Let me take you too a interesting and colorful festival of India which is called Ladakh Festival.

Ladakh is a region which is located in the north Indian state of Jammu & Kashmir. With Great Himalayas on its south and Kunlun mountain range on its north, it is a place of its own beautry. The most of the population (जनसँख्या – Jansankhiya) is Buddhist. It is also known as the land of high passes as there are several passes at altitude (ऊंचाई – Unchai) of 9,800 ft!

Ladakh Festival is celebrated in the Ladakh region (क्षेत्र – Kṣētra) in the month of September. This year, it is celebrated from 20th to 26th of September. The festival is celebrated to commence the harvest season. The people dress in very colorful robes, mask and their traditional jewellery. Gathering of locals and tourist fills up the entire space around the gompas, a Buddhist monastery, where various stalls and tents are erected. The festival (त्यौहार – Tyohar) showcases traditional dances (नाँच  – Nanch), which symbolize the victory of good over evil in their storyline.

Not only dancers but also many musicians (संगीतकार – Sangeetkar) and singers (गीतकार  – Geetkar) take part in the event and present local folk songs (लोक गीत – Lok Geet) and dances in the festival events. Traditional sports even such as polo and archery are also showcased. In the festival, you can also find many stalls which sells traditional arts and handicraft items. During this festival time, the families (परिवार – Parivar) in the village would gather together and dine together in a festive mood.
