New Year’s Wishes and Resolutions Posted by on Dec 31, 2017 in Hindi Language

It’s that time of the year  … to bid goodbye to the old year and welcome the new year. साल का वह वक़्त आ गया है — पुराने साल को बिदा करने का और नये साल का स्वागत करने का। (Saal ka vah waqt aa gaya hai — puraane saal ko bida karne ka aur naye saal ka swagat karne ka.)

It’s time take stock of the 12 months that have passed, the strifes झगड़े (jhagde), successes सफलताएँ (safaltaen), joys ख़ुशियाँ (khushiyaan), challenges चुनौतियाँ (chunautiyaan), and lessons सीख (seekh) learned.

More importantly, however, it is a time to look forward to a fresh start ताज़ी शुरुआत (taazi shuruaat), and another chance दूसरा मौक़ा (doosra mauqa) to make resolutions संकल्प (sankalp) (and break them too:))

I’m not one to make resolutions, but I do attempt to learn one new thing each year. Fitness resolutions are probably the most common. To lose weight वज़न घटाना (vazan ghatana), to eat healthy सेहतमंद खाना खाना (sehatmand khana khana), to exercise more और कसरत करना (aur kasrat karna), etc इत्यादि (ityaadi).

Let’s welcome the new year with a new resolve.
नये वर्ष का स्वागत नये संकल्प के साथ करते हैं।
Naye varsh ka swagat naye sankalp ke saath karte hain.

What are your resolutions for 2018?
आपके २०१८ के संकल्प क्या हैं?
Aapke 2018 ke sankalp kya hain?

Let’s ask a few people.

(In this audio clip, Meg is asking some folks about their resolutions for the new year. Sandy says she wants to become a Size Zero like Bollywood actresss Kareena Kapoor. Nina wants to attempt Mt. Everest, while Sonia aspires to bring more discipline in her life in the year 2018.)

About the Author: Nitya

Namaste, friends. My name is Nitya. I was born and raised in Mumbai (formerly Bombay). I'm a native Hindi speaker. However, as life took me through school, college, work, and waves of friends from different parts of India, my repertoire of Hindi flavors and dialects grew and added dimension to my native fluency. Casual, formal, colloquial, and regional ... Hindi is a language with incredible variety and localization. Through this blog, I will help you learn Hindi through conversations, vocabulary, colloquialisms, and glimpses of Indian culture. आओ, मिलकर हिंदी सीखते हैं। (Aao, milkar Hindi seekhte hain!) Come, let's learn Hindi together.
