Let me take you to the state of Uttar Pradesh today. Uttar Pradesh is a north Indian state which share its boundary with Delhi. The word, Uttar Pradesh (उत्तर प्रदेश) is made of two words, Uttar (उत्तर – North) and Pradesh (प्रदेश – State).

Uttar Pradesh has been seat of many empires since ancient times. It has several cities which boost of royal palaces, sacred religious sites and other historical monuments. Some of the cities that you don’t want to miss on your trip to Uttar Pradesh are,

Agra (आगरा)
Agra is most famous for Taj Mahal, which was voted the top wonder out of 7 wonders of modern world. People who visit India usually visit Agra for this marvelous monument. Beside Taj Mahal, the city also has several historical monuments which should not be missed if you happen to travel to Agra. These include Red Fort (लाल किला – Laal Kila), Sikandara Fort, Fatehpur Sikari Fort (around 70 km from Agra but worth traveling).

Lucknow (लखनऊ)
The city of Lucknow is know of its royalty, music, literature and craft. It is also the state capital of Uttar Pradesh. Some of the place worth visiting is Bara Imambara, Chota Imambara, Rumi Darwaza, Chattar Manzil and Dr. Ambedkar Park.

Varanasi (वाराणसी)
The city of Varanasi, which is also known as Kashi is scared city for the followers of Hinduism since millennia. It is located on the banks of river Ganges (गंगा – Ganga), which is considered a living Goddess. The follower of Hinduism comes to Varanasi for holy pilgrimage from around the world. The river bank (Ghats) as well as the temples like Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Varanasi are worth visiting for those seeking a spiritual experience.


Vrindavan (वृन्दावन)
The city of Vrandavan is also scared city for the followers of Hinduism since millennia. It is this city where Lord Krishna grown up. The city has numerous temples. Some of the places worth visiting include Iskcon Temple (from the Hare Krishna movement), Govind Dev Temple, Kesi Ghat, and Bankey Bihari Temple.

Sarnath (सारनाथ)
Sarnath is a city which is located near to Varanasi. The city has a where Gautam Buddha gave his first sermon as therefore, it is very sacred site for the followers of Buddhism. The site has ruins of ancient structures from 3th century B.C..
