Travel Phrases…the language of travelers…the life-saving phrases! 🙂

I can imagine a difficult situation when someone from you, might be coming to India and want to explore the vast India without a guide or any other help. I am giving you some of the phrases that you can use during your travel to India. Other than that, you can use them to learn some vocabulary. 🙂

Greeting & Introduction

Hi! Hello! नमस्ते! (Namaste!), नमस्कार! (Namaskar!)
Good morning! सु:प्रभात! (Suprabhaat!)
Good evening! शुभ संध्या! (Shubh Sandhyaa!)
Good evening! शुभ रात्रि! (Shubh Ratri!)
Excuse me! क्षमा कीजिये! (Kshama kijiye!)
Thank you (very much)! (बहुत) धन्यवाद! (Bahut Dhanayavad!)
How are you? आप कैसे हैं? (Aap kaise hain?)
I’m fine, thanks! मैं ठीक हूँ, धन्यवाद! (Mein theek hoon, dhaniyavad!)
And you? और आप केसे हैं? (Aur aap kese hain?)
I am also fine. मैं भी ठीक हूँ। (Main bhi thik hoon.)
Excellent/Good/ So-So बहुत अच्छा /अच्छा/ ठीक-ठाक (Bahut accha/Accha/Theek-thaak)
You’re welcome! (for “thank you”) कोई बात नहीं। (Koi baat nahi)
Hey Mister! अरे श्रीमान! (Arrey Shrimaan!)
My name is Nathan/Suzanna. मेरा नाम नाथन/सुज़न्ना हैं। (Mera naam Nathan/Suzanna hai)
I am from USA. मैं अमेरिका से आया/आई हूँ। (Main america se aaya/aayi hoon)
And, what’s your name? और, आपका नाम क्या है? (Aur, aapka naam kya hai?)
How it is going? और आजकल क्या चल रहा है? (Aur aajkal kya chal rahaa hai?)
Nothing much ज्यादा कुछ नहीं। (Zyaada kuch nahi)
Nothing special कुछ खास नहीं। (Kuch khas nahi)
See you later! फिर मिलते हैं! (Fir milte hain) ।
Will see you sometime! आप से मिलते है कभी! (Aap se fir milte hain kabhi)
Good bye! नमस्ते! (Namaste!), नमस्कार! (Namaskar!)

How far is this place/Temple/Fort? यह स्थान/मंदिर/किला यहाँ से कितनी दूर है? (Yeh Sthan/Mandir/Kila yaha se kitni dur hai?)
Where is the hotel here? यहाँ होटल कहा है? (Yaha hotel kaha hai?)
Where does this road go? यह सड़क किस रस्ते जाती है? (yeh sadak kis raaste jati hai?)
What is the time right now? अभी कितना समय हुआ है? (Abhi kitna samay hua hai?)
Where is the public toilet/bank/police station/railway station/bus stop? यहाँ शौचालय/बैंक/पुलिस स्टेशन/रेलवे स्टेशन कहा है? (Yaha shochaalya/bank/police station/railway sation kaaha hai?)
Where is the telephone booth? यहाँ फ़ोन बूथ कहा है?(yaha phone booth kaha hai?)
Can I make an international call? क्या में विदेश/बाहर फ़ोन कर सकता हूँ?(Kya mein Videsh/bahar phone kar sakta hoon?)
When does the bus/train comes here? यहाँ बस/ट्रेन कितने समय आती है? (Yaha bus/train kitne baje aati hai?)
How much is this? यह कितने का है? (Yeh kitne ka hai?)
Where are the tourist places here? यहाँ घुमने की जगह कहाँ-कहाँ है? (Yaha ghumne ki jagah kaha-kaha hai?
