Hoje temos a segunda parte dos phrasal verbs intransitivos, que são aqueles verbos que não precisam de complemento.

1. give up – desistir
I give up! I just can’t do this. – Desisto! Não consigo fazer isso!
Never give up. – Nunca desista.
2. go on – continuar
I asked him to be quiet but he went on and didn’t stop talking. – Pedir para ele ficar quieto mas ele continuou e não parou de falar.
The rain went on for several hours. – A chuva continuou por várias horas.
3. hold on – esperar
Hold on for a second. I’ll be right there. – Espere um segundo. Já volto.
Do you mind holding on for a minute? – Você se importa em esperar por um minuto?
4. keep up – acompanhar; manter-se atualizado
He walks too fast, I can’t keep up. – Ele anda muito rápido. Não consigo acompanhar.
When we study another language, we need to keep up with new vocabulary that comes along. – Quando estudamos uma outra lingua, temos de ficar atualizados com novo vocabulário que aparece.
5. lie down – deitar-se
I’m really tired, I think I’ll lie down. – Estou muito cansado, acho que vou me deitar.
He lay down on the bed and tried to relax. – Ele se deitou na cama e tentou relaxar.
6. light up – iluminar(-se)
There were fireworks and the sky lit up. – Houve fogos de artifício e o céu se iluminou.
His eyes lit up when she entered the room. – Os olhos dele se iluminaram quando ela entrou na sala.
7. pass out – desmaiar
He passed out from the heat. – Ele desmaiou com o calor.
She passed out right in front of me. – Ela desmaiou bem na minha frente.
8. run out – (algo) acabar, ficar sem; terminar (acordo, contrato)
I had to travel back home when my money ran out. – Tive que voltar para casa quando meu dinheiro acabou.
Our contract runs out in July. – Nosso contrato acaba em julho.
9. show up – aparecer
We waited for him for hours but he never showed up. – Esperamos por ele por horas mas ele não apareceu.
I invited her for nine o’clock, but she only showed up at ten-thirty. – Eu a convidei para as oito horas, mas ela só apareceu às dez e meia.
10. start over – recomeçar
OK, tear up your drafts and let’s start over. – OK, rasguem seus rascunhos e comecemos de novo.
He lost everything but decided to start over. – Ele perdeu tudo mas decidiu começar tudo de novo.
11. straighten up – ajeitar, arrumar; endireitar-se (postura)
Let’s straighten up before they arrive. – Vamos ajeitar as coisas antes de que eles cheguem.
Straighten up, the Coronel is coming! – Endireitem-se, o Coronel está chegando!
12. team up – trabalhar conjuntamente com alguém
They teamed up for that big project. – Eles se juntaram para aquele projeto.
Those singers teamed up for that beautiful cause. – Aqueles cantores se juntaram para aquela linda causa.
