O uso da forma -ing ou to com alguns verbos é um assunto que traz um pouco de dificuldade para os estudantes de inglês aqui no Brasil. Hoje vamos estudar alguns verbos que apresentam diferença em significado se usados com a forma -ing ou com o infinitivo com to.
Remember – lembrar-se
to remeber doing something – lembrar-se de ter feito algo
I remember locking the door. – Eu me lembro de ter trancado a porta.
I can’t remeber being in the hospital when I was a kid. – Não me lembro de ter estado no hospital quando era pequeno.
She can’t remember being bitten by a dog. – Ela não se lembra de ter sido mordida por um cachorro.
to remember to do something – lembrar-se de fazer algo
I remebered to lock the door, but I forgot to lock the windows. – Eu me lembrei de trancar a porta, mas me esqueci de trancar as janelas.
Remember to take out the trash. – Lembre-se de levar o lixo para a rua.
Did you remember to call your parents? – Você se lembrou de ligar para os seus pais?
Regret – arrepender-se
to regret doing something – arrepender-se de ter feito algo
I regret saying what I said. – Eu me arrependo te ter dito o que eu disse.
Did you regret going out in the rain last night? – Você se arrependeu de ter saído na chuva ontem?
It was so cold and I regretted not bringing my coat. – Estava tão frio e eu me arrependi de não ter levado meu casaco.
to regret to do something – sentir muito por dizer, fazer, algo
I regret to tell you that you haven’t passed the test. – Sinto te dizer que você não passou no test.
We regret to inform you that we cannot offer you the job. – Sentimos em informar que não podemos oferecer-lhe o emprego.
I regret to say that your mother has passed away. – Sinto lhe dizer que sua mãe faleceu.
Go on
to go on doing something – continuar fazendo algo
Everybody was quiet but she went on talking. – Todos estavam quietos mas ela continuou falando.
I can’t go on living like this. – Não consigo mais viver assim.
She went on doing what she was doing. – Ela continuou fazendo o que estava fazendo.
to go on to do something – fazer algo novo (depois de ter feito outra atividade)
After talking about politics the teacher went on to talk about education. – Depois de falar sobre política o professor começou a falar sobre educação.
Bill went on to work as manager after working as admin assistant for two years. – Ben foi trabalhar como gerente depois de trabalhar como office boy por dois anos.
After beating the dough, the cook went on to make the pie stuffing. – Depois de bater a massa, a cozinheira foi fazer o recheio da torta.
