Gírias em inglês americano Posted by on Apr 14, 2011 in Intermediário

Hey, what up?

Nosso post hoje vai ser sobre algumas gírias bem comuns no inglês americano. Veja este pequeno parágrafo.

I ran into my friend Glen at the mall last night and he seemed really pissed. I asked him what was going on and he told me to get out of his face, can you believe that? Then he calmed down and explained that he thought he’d blown his finals and his parents would freak out when they found out. He, like, drew a blank on everything. But he was more upset about who’d aced the test, um, what’s-his-face again, that dude that kisses up to the teacher, ah right, Jimmy Simms. He just keeps ditching classes and has this all laid-back vibe on him, anyway, it just rubs Glen the wrong way. Bottom line, Glen thinks Jimmy has the hots for the teacher and that is downright gross, man.

Vamos aprender as gírias em negrito acima:

pissed – muito bravo, p… da vida. Pissed não é uma palavra muito educada, então tome cuidado para usá-la.
Get out of my face! – Me deixa em paz! Não me enche o saco!
blow (blew – blown) – estragar, ferrar, danar
finals – provas finais
freak out – pirar
like – tipo, sabe, que nem
draw (drew – drawn) a blank – dar um branco, esquecer-se de algo
ace (aced) – tirar a nota máxima (numa prova)
what’s-his-face – o fulano
dude – cara, rapaz
kiss up to – puxar o saco de
ditch/cut classes – cabular aula
laid-back vibe – jeito relaxado, descontraído
rub someone the wrong way – irritar alguém
Bottom line… – Resumindo…
have the hots for – estar atraído por (alguém)
gross – nojento

Have a great weekend!
