Hey, how’ve you been?

Vi um artigo na Folha de São Paulo sobre o seriado Teen Wolf e comecei a assistir. Não tem muito a ver com o filme com o Michael J. Fox e é bem mais sombria.

Gostei tanto que anotei algumas expressões e phrasal verbs do episódio número 09 da primeira temporada, que foi ao ar na segunda-feira, nos Estados Unidos. Veja o trailer da série abaixo and let’s learn a bit,  shall we?

Lay low – ficar escondido, sem ser notado

After he robbed the bank, the outlaw decided to lay low small awhile.
Depois de ter assaltado o banco, o bandido decidiu ficar quieto por uns tempos.

Jane is looking for you, and she sure is angry. You’d best lay low.
Jane está te procurando e ela está muito brava. Melhor você sumir.

Get past something – esquecer algo, deixar para trás

He couldn’t get past the fact that she’d cheated on him.
Ele não conseguia se esquecer do fato que ela o tinha traído.

That happened a long time ago. Can’t you get past that?
Isso aconteceu muito tempo atrás. Dá pra esquecer isso?

Settle down – sossegar, tomar rumo na vida

After years of partying and drinking, he decided to settle down.
Depois de anos de festas e bebidas, ele decidiu sossegar.

Settle down and stop worrying about your English exam. You’ll do very well, I’m sure.
Acalme-se e pare de se preocupar com sua prova de inglês. Você irá muito bem, tenho certeza.

There was a fight between the rival football fans but things have settled down now.
Houve uma briga entre os torcedores dos times rivais mas as coisas se assentaram agora.

Come up with – inventar, bolar (história, desculpa)

I’ve got to come up with one heck of a good excuse for denting my dad’s car.
Vou ter que inventar uma boa desculpa por ter amassado o carro do meu pai.

I tried to come up with a name for the new product, but I just couldn’t.
Tentei achar um nome para o novo produto, mas não consegui.

Dump – terminar um relacionamento com alguém, “largar” de alguém

What? You’re dumping me?! Who do you think you are?
O quê? Você está largando de mim?! Quem você pensa que é?

She was too clingy, I had to dump her.
Ela era muito grudenta, tive que largar dela.
