Let’s throw a party for him. (Vamos fazer uma festa para ele.)

Throw someone in jail – colocar alguém na cadeia

They don’t throw anyone in jail for parking illegally, but they will tow your car and charge you a fine. (Não vão te colocar na cadeia por estacionar errado, mas vão guinchar seu carro e você vai ser multado.)
He was caught robbing this house and was thrown in jail. (Pegaram-no roubando uma casa e colocaram-no na cadeia.)

He’d beat me for the fifth time, so I threw in the towel. (Ele tinha ganhado pela quinta vez, então eu desisti.)

Throw money at something – injetar dinheiro em algo, investir

Throw a fit – fazer um escândalo, dar um “piti”

My mother threw/had a fit when she saw the mess we made. (Minha mãe deu um piti quando viu a bagunça que nós fizemos.)
We’d better clear up before Mary arrives. She’ll throw/have a fit otherwise. (É melhor a gente limpar tudo antes de que a Mary chegue. Senão ela vai ter um piti.)
