Usamos both, either e neither para falar sobre duas coisas ou pessoas.

Both – ambos, os dois
Either – ou um ou outro
Neither – nem um nem outro

Alguns exemplos:

Jack has two children. Both are married.
Jack tem dois filhos. Ambos são casados.

Would you like tea or coffee? You can have either.
Você gostaria de chá ou café? Você pode tomar ou um ou outro.

Do you want to go to the movies or the theater? – Neither. I want to stay home.
Você qyer ir ao cinema ou ao teatro? – Nenhum dos dois. Quero ficar em casa.

Would you like tea or coffe? – Você gostaria de chá ou café?
– Either. It doesn’t matter. (Qualquer um. Não importa.)
– I don’t want either. (Não quero nenhum.)
– Neither. (Nenhum dos dois.)

Lembre-se de que neither = not either.

Com both usamos o substantivo no plural. Com either/neither usamos o substantivo no singular

both windows / books / children
either/neither window / book/ child

Last year I went to New York and Miami. I liked both cities very much.
Ano passado fui a Nova Iorque e Miami. Gostei muito das duas cidades.

First I worked in an office, and then in a store. Neither job was interesting.
Primeiro eu trabalhei num escritório, e depois numa loja. Nenhum dos dois empregos era interessante.

There are two ways to get to the airport. You can go either way.
Há dois caminhos para ir ao aeroporto. Você pode pegar ou um ou outro.

Usamos a preposição of quando both, either e neither vierem seguidos de artigos, possessivos e demonstrativos.

Neither of my parents is Canadian.
Nem meu pai nem minha mãe é canadense.

I haven’t read either of these books.
Não li nenhum desses livros.

No caso acima, porém, podemos retirar o of.

I like both of those pictures. ou I like both those pictures.
Both of Amy’s sisters are married. ou Both Amy’s sisters are married.

Quando usamos os pronomes oblíquos temos que usar obrigatoriamente o of.

I have two sisters. Both of them are married.
Tom and I didn’t eat anything. Neither of us was hungry.
Who are those two people? I don’t know either of them.
