IN THE LONG RUN | A LONGO PRAZO

Meaning | Significado: long term | por um longo período de tempo

• I think bringing my own lunch to work is too time-consuming, but I know in the long run this will help me save up | Acho que levar meu próprio almoço para o trabalho consome muito tempo, mas sei que, a longo prazo, isso me ajudará a economizar
• Exercising regularly can be hard, but it brings a lot of benefits in the long run | Exercitar-se regularmente pode ser difícil, mas traz muitos benefícios a longo prazo

CALL IT A DAY/NIGHT | ENCERRAR

Meaning: finish doing something temporarily | terminar de fazer algo temporariamente

• I’ve been working on this project for a long time with no progress. I’ll just call it a day and see if I come up with new ideas tomorrow | Estou trabalhando neste projeto há muito tempo, sem progresso. Vou encerrar por hoje e ver se tenho novas ideias amanhã 
• Good job, everyone! Now let’s call it a day and I’ll see you all tomorrow | Bom trabalho a todos! Vamos encerrar por hoje e até amanhã

TIME OFF | FOLGA, INTERVALO

Meaning: to take a holiday or a break from work | sair de folga ou dar uma pausa no trabalho

• I would love to go on this trip with you, but I don’t think I will be able to take any time off at work | Eu adoraria fazer essa viagem com você, mas acho que não vou conseguir tirar nenhuma folga no trabalho
• My sister always takes some time off at work on the holidays to spend time with her family | Minha irmã sempre tira uma folga do trabalho no natal para passar um tempo com a família

(only) TIME WILL TELL | SÓ O TEMPO DIRÁ

Meaning: the result of something will only be known in the future | o resultado de algo só será descoberto no futuro

It’s hard to predict how these new government reforms will affect people’s lives, only time will tell | É difícil prever como essas novas reformas governamentais afetarão a vida das pessoas, apenas o tempo dirá

Time will tell if this if that was a good investment or not | O tempo dirá se isso foi um bom investimento ou não 

TO HAVE A GOOD/ GREAT TIME | SE DIVERTIR

Meaning: to enjoy yourself | viver bons momentos

• Have a good time at the party tonight! | Divirta-se na festa hoje à noite!
• I went to Paris by myself, but I had a great time anyway | Eu fui a Paris sozinha mas me diverti mesmo assim 

GIVE SOMEONE A HARD TIME | ENCHER O SACO

Meaning: to make things difficult for someone, treat them badly | dificultar as coisas para alguém, tratá-los mal.

• I think my boss doesn’t like me very much, he boss keeps giving me a hard time at work | Eu acho que meu chefe não gosta muito de mim, ele vive me enchendo o saco no trabalho
• Stop giving your brother such a hard time! He is younger than you | Pare de encher o saco do seu irmão! Ele é mais novo que você
