Networking tips Posted by on Feb 16, 2010 in Negócios

Hey, there! How’ve you been?

Today I’m going to write about this really good book I’ve just read: Make a Name for Yourself, by Scott Ginsberg.

Scott is known as the Nametag Guy and it all began when he was attending an event and had to wear a nametag. After the event he kept the nametag on and started to notice something unusual: people started saying hello to him, being nice, so he decided to keep wearing the name tag every day. It turns out he made a business out of it and he even tattooed the nametag on his chest.

Nowadays Scott has several books published, gives more than 60 talks a year in companies all around the USA and in his book, Make a Name for Yourself, he gives us some very interesting networking tips. Here are some of them:

• No matter where you go, have at least 5 business cards with you.
• When you go to networking events, arrive early and check the nametags. See if there’s someone you’d like to meet. Also, sit in the back so you can scan the room for specific people you’d like to connect with.
• Get connect with social networking sites like LinkedIn.
• Attend local events at least once a month.
• Figure out where your target market hangs out. Go hang out there too.
• Talk to everybody. Make friends. People buy people first, then products.
• Publish articles or a blog based on your expertise.
• Carry blank business cards with you in case someone forgets theirs.
• It’s not who you know, but who knows you. (by Jeffrey Gitomer)
• Read articles on networking. Google has lots of them!
• When someone asks you “How are you?”, don’t just say “Fine.” Say positive sentences like “Everything is great” or “Business is picking up every day”.

Well, this is it for today. Take care and see you next time!
