To enjoy your liquid refreshment of choice on Lá Fhéile Pádraig, here are some units of measurement from which it might be consumed or in which it might be stored.  The list is in approximate size order, but specific sizes would be way too much detail for aon bhlag amháin.

Tá an Béarla thíos, faoin liosta, ach b’fhéidir gur mhaith leat na téarmaí a fheiceáil i nGaeilge amháin ar dtús, le fáil amach an féidir leat Béarla (nó teanga eile) a chur orthu.

I’ve also included sample contents for the containers, mostly beverages and mostly (but not all) beer-related.

gloine, and don’t forget that the word “beer” following “gloine” would change to “beorach,” so: gloine beorach

galún (úsáidtear seo i Meiriceá má tá bainne i gceist; uisce agus a lán leachtanna eile chomh maith)

oigiséad fuisce (I’m not sure if this unit of measurement was normally used for fuisce, but it shows up that way in the song, Rosin the Beau.  Maybe that was poetic license?  Eolas ag duine ar bith faoi sin?)

bota, which also gives us “butrach,” as a place where “botaí” would be prominent.  Somewhat curiously though, I don’t see any Irish word based specifically on “bota” that would be a close equivalent to “scuttlebutt” in its physical sense.  As for the figurative meaning of “scuttlebutt” as “rumor” or “gossip,” there’s plenty in Irish, ach sin ábhar blag eile (but, for the tip of the iceberg, we could consider “ráfla” and “cúlchaint”)

Finally, we end up with “tonna,” which, as I understand it would be for stóráil na beorach, and dabhach, which would be for the process of grúdaireacht itself.
