A lot of readers have told us that they find our blogs dealing with everyday colloquial conversation really useful. So, without further ado, here’s another episode from the ‘fascinating’ lives of Serena and Geoff.
Geoff: “Cosa pensavi di fare oggi?”
Geoff: “What were you thinking of doing today?”
Serena: “Mi sarebbe piaciuto fare una passeggiata, ma purtroppo il tempo fa schifo”
Serena: “I would have liked to go for a walk, but unfortunately the weather is horrible”
Geoff: “Ho un’idea! Perché non mi aiuti a cambiare la molla sul mio M4 CQB?”
Geoff: “I’ve got an idea! Why don’t you help me change the spring on my M4 CQB?”
Serena: “Ohhh … Ora che mi viene in mente, non abbiamo pane. Quasi quasi faccio la focaccia al mais, poi, già che ci sono, potrei fare i biscotti al cioccolato che piacciono tanto a te, tesoro!”
Serena: “Ohhh … Now that I think of it, we don’t have any bread. I rather fancy making the maize focaccia, then, while I’m at it, I could make those chocolate cookies that you really like, darling!”
Geoff: “Grazie, amore, sarei molto contento se me li facessi. Però quando hai finito ci sarebbe da attaccare il Velcro sul mio gilet tattico, e poi potresti …”
Geoff: “Thank you, love, I’d be really happy if you made them for me. However, when you’ve finished, there’s that Velcro to fix on to my tactical vest, and then you could …”
Serena: “Uffa!!! Sempre a pensare al Softair! Perché non facciamo un po’ di pulizie della casa? C’è da passare l’aspirapolvere e da pulire il bagno. Se tu passi l’aspirapolvere, che io odio, prometto di pulire il bagno”
Serena: “Humph! You’re always thinking about Airsoft! Why don’t we do a bit of house cleaning? There’s the vacuuming to be done and the bathroom needs cleaning. If you vacuum, which I hate, I promise that I’ll clean the bathroom”

Geoff: “Porca miseria! Sono già stanco solo a pensarci, ho bisogno di una tazza di tè. Ne vuoi una anche tu?”
Geoff: “Bloody hell! Just thinking about it makes me tired, I need a cup of tea. Do you want one as well?”
Serena: “Sì, grazie, basta che non sia Darjeeling, lo sai che non mi piace troppo.”
Serena: “Yes, please, as long as it’s not Darjeeling, you know that I don’t like it too much”
Geoff: “Ti va bene Earl Grey?”
Geoff: “Is Earl Grey all right with you?”
Serena: “Perfetto!”
Serena: “Perfect!”
Geoff: “Ci sono dei biscotti, a parte quelli al cioccolato che hai promesso di farmi?”
Geoff: “Are there any biscuits, apart from those chocolate ones which you promised to make me?”
Serena: “Sì, nella scatola grande ci sono i biscotti normali”
Serena: “Yes, in the big tin there are the normal biscuits”
Geoff: “Il tè e pronto!”
Geoff: “Tea is ready!”
Serena: “Grazie, caro”
Serena: “Thank you, dear”
Geoff: “Ma aspetta un po’! Perché non prendiamo due piccioni con una fava e scriviamo questa conversazione per il blog?”
Geoff: “Hang on a moment! Why don’t we kill two birds with one stone and write down this conversation for the blog?”
Serena: “Questa sì che è una buona idea!”
Serena: “That’s a really good idea!”

Thank you. These are molto utile.
So does “Quasi quasi fare” translate as “I’d rather like to”?

@robin Scusa per il ritardo, Robin, avevo perso la tua domanda. ‘Quasi quasi’ it’s a colloquial expression. It’s used when you are ‘tempted’ by an idea but not sure yet. E.g. At the restaurant: ‘quasi quasi prendo il sorbetto al limone’ = ‘I think I’ll have the lemon sorbet’. ‘Domani Laura va a Roma. Quasi quasi ci vado anch’io’ = ‘Tomorrow Laura is going to Rome. I quite fancy going there too’.

Potreste elaborare su questa espressione forse con altri esempi?

@Paolo Salve Paolo. ‘Già che ci sono’ = ‘while I’m at it’. Questa espressione può essere usata anche per altre persone e in altri tempi, basta cambiare il verbo essere. Per esempio: ‘Vai a comprare il pane? Già che ci sei compra anche della focaccia’. ‘Ieri siamoo andati in città a fare la spesa e già che c’eravamo siamo passati a salutare Laura e Claudio’. Va bene?

Ho reletto la post e’ ho due altre demande:
1. quale e’ la differenze fra “di fare qualcosa” e’ “da fare qualcosa) “Cosa pensavi di fare oggi?” (is it the English “what are you thinking of doing” vs “what are you going to do” today?)
2. perche’ ha usato la frase “Mi sarebbe piaciuto fare una passeggiata” invece di “mi sarebbe piaciuta” quando la cosa di cui pensa e “una” passeggiata? Is it because “it” has no reference to the walk and is about you personally are feeling?

1: quale e’ la differenze fra “di fare qualcosa” e’ “da fare qualcosa) “Cosa pensavi di fare oggi?” (is it the English “what are you thinking of doing” vs “what are you going to do” today?) Dipende dal verbo precedente: ‘pensare’ è seguito dalla preposizione ‘di’: domani penso di andare a Parma. Invece ‘avere molto’ è seguito dalla preposizione ‘da’: domani non posso venire perché ho molto da fare.
2. perche’ ha usato la frase “Mi sarebbe piaciuto fare una passeggiata” invece di “mi sarebbe piaciuta” quando la cosa di cui pensa e “una” passeggiata? Is it because “it” has no reference to the walk and is about you personally are feeling? Ho usato ‘piaciuto’ e non ‘piaciuta’ perché piacere non si riferisce alla passeggiata ma al verbo fare. Mi sarebbe piaciuta una passeggiata, oppure mi sarebbe piaciuto fare una passeggiata.
