Tutte le cose belle finiscono – All good things come to an end

The Italian language blog (and all the other language blogs) have been online and regularly updated for the past 14 years. I have personally been writing for almost 3 of those years, and it has been an amazing experience sharing all things Italian with thousands of you every month.

Ma tutte le cose belle finiscono. This will be the last post of the Italian blog, but the thousands of articles I and others have written will always be accessible by searching and scrolling through the archive section!

To say goodbye and thank you, here is an excerpt from the poem Ringraziare Desidero by Mariangela Gualtieri. To read the whole poem, click here.

In quest’ora della sera
da questo punto del mondo

Ringraziare desidero il divino
labirinto delle cause e degli effetti
per la diversità delle creature
che compongono questo universo singolare
ringraziare desidero

__________________________

At this time of the evening
from this point of the world

I want to give thanks to the divine
labyrinth of causes and effects
for the diversity of creatures
that make up this singular universe
I wish to thank
love, which makes us see others
as divinity sees them
for the bread and salt
for the mystery of the rose
who lavishes color and does not see it
for the art of friendship
for the last day of Socrates
for language, which can simulate wisdom
I wish to thank
the courage and happiness of others
for the homeland felt in jasmine

Alas, an Italian to English translation problem: io, not mi. It is “the thousands of articles I and others have written” not “the thousands of articles me and others have written.” This error would never have been made in Italian! Thank you for all the good Italian lessons

    • Bridgette:

@Suzanne Weiss Just fixed this, thanks Suzanne! You and this whole community will be missed! It’s been such an amazing journey.
