Architectural Wonders of Okinawa Posted by on Nov 4, 2010 in Uncategorized

Okinawa () is the place where you can find culturally and historically significant locations for all sorts of architectural wonders.

For example Tamaudun () is a place where several important Okinawan kings, queens, princes and princesses were buried. Some of the burial items that were looted by Allied troops in 1945, but much of the architectural structure is still entact.

Not all of Nakijin Castle (今帰仁) has survived, but the foundation of the Castle has revealed that the walls of the castle were made of limestone. Nakijin Castle was a fortress, but was also partly a place of residence for royalty.

Shuri Castle (首里城) was reconstructed several times. Since Shuri Castle was located in a economic, religious and political center of importance, it was subject to attack from foreign enemies.
