Hi everyone. I am sorry I haven’t been able to write recently. I just got back to U.S. this week after spending 5 weeks in Japan. I am suffering from jet lag during the last few days. For me, coming back to U.S. is much worse than going to Japan in terms of jet lag. Since we are on a topic of traveling, let me introduce you to some of the Japanese vocabulary related to traveling in this article.

Travel = ryokou, 旅行,(りょこう)noun

To travel = ryokou suru, 旅行する、(りょこうする)verb

~Sentence Example~

I traveled to China this summer.

=Watashi wa kono natsu chugokue ryokoushita.

私は、この夏 中国へ旅行した。(わたしは、このなつ ちゅごくへ りょこうした。)

You can also say:

=Watashi wa kono natsu chugokue ryokou de itta.

私は、この夏 中国へ旅行で行った。(わたしは このなつ ちゅごくへ りょこうで いった)

Jet lag = jisa boke, 時差ぼけ (じさぼけ)noun

~Sentence Example~

I am suffering from jet lag after I got back from Japan.

=Nihon kara modotte irai, jisa boke de kurushindeiru.

日本から戻って以来、時差ぼけで苦しんでいる。(にほんからもどっていらい、じさぼけでくるしんでいる。)

This time, my jet lag is pretty bad.

=Konkaino jisa boke wa kekkou hidoi.

今回の時差ぼけは、結構酷い。(こんかいの じさぼけは、けっこう ひどい)

foreign country = gaikoku, 外国 (がいこく) noun

~Sentence Example~

I would like to go to a foreign country one day.

=itsuka gaikoku e ittemitai.

いつか外国へ行ってみたい。(いつか がいこくへ いってみたい)

plane = hiko-ki, 飛行機 (ひこうき) noun

ride on a plane = hiko-ki ni noru, 飛行機に乗る、ひこうきに のる

get off a plane = hiko-ki kara oriru, 飛行機から降りる、ひこうきから おりる

~Sentence Example~

I like traveling by plane.

=Watashi wa hiko-ki de ryokou ni ikunoga suki desu.

私は、飛行機で旅行に行くのが好きです。(わたしは、ひこうきで りょこうにいくのが すきです。)

We just got off the plane.

=Ima hiko-ki kara orita bakaridesu.

今、飛行機から降りたばかりです。(今、飛行機から降りたばかりです。)

Carry on luggage = tenimotsu, 手荷物 (てにもつ)

~Sentence Example~

I have too many carry on luggage.

=Watashi wa tenimotsu o mochisugida.

私は、手荷物を持ちすぎだ。(わたしは、てにもつ を もちすぎだ。)

Please check the size of your carry on luggage.

=Tenimotsu no o-kisa o kakunin shite kudasai.

手荷物の大きさを確認してください。(てにもつの おおきさを かくにん してください。)

Airport = ku-ko-, 空港 (くうこう)

~Sentence Example~

I have to be at the airport at 6 AM tomorrow morning.

=Asuno asa roku ji ni ku-ko- ni inakereba naranai.

明日の朝、空港に6時にいなければならない。(あすのあさ ろくじに くうこうに いなければならない。)
