When you are stressed out, how would you say that in Japanese?
So, these days, I have been stressed out pretty badly. I just love the picture I found.. This is exactly how I feel like at this moment.. Sometimes you feel like you can handle so much, considering all these things going on in your family and for yourself. I have covered many of the feeling related expressions of Japanese in the past, but don’t think I have covered this one. When you are feeling so stressed out… what are the expression you can use in Japanese? Not the ideal subject maybe, but you might hear someone say one of theses around you…! Never enough when it comes to learning expression in a foreign language, as you can always learn something new, so read on ~.
Stress in Japanese is the same as in English. We say it “stress” too, in writing, it is written as “ストレス” in Katakana.
When you are so stressed out, you might say….
I am super stressed out. or I am so stressed out…
In Japanese, these will be,
すっごく(すごく) ストレス たまってる。 めっちゃ ストレス たまってる。
Suggoku (Sugoku) stress tamatteru. Meccha storesu tamatteru.
The expression, “stressed out” is translated as “stress ga tamaru(ストレス が たまる), stress ga tamatteiru(ストレス が たまっている)” in Japanese.
So, if you are asking someone if he/she is stressed out,
Are you stressed out? => Stress tamatteru? (ストレス たまってる?) Stress tamatte masuka? (ストレス たまってますか?)
We also use the expression ” Stress reduction” quite often in Japanese.
We call it “Stress Kaisho (ストレス 解消、 ストレス かいしょう)
You often hear people say,
I will go to the gym tomorrow to reduce my stress. ==> this will be translated as
==> Stress kaisho ni ashita gym ittekimasu. (ストレス 解消 に 明日 ジム 行ってきます。ストレス かいしょう に あした ジム いってきます。)
So, these are probably the two most useful expressions related to “stress”
- Stress ga tamaru (ストレス が たまる )
- Stress kaisho (ストレス 解消、 ストレス かいしょう)
Next time if you are stressed out, you can explain how you feel in Japanese to your friends and family in Japanese….
