Middle Ages Festival in Oslo Posted by on Jun 18, 2010 in Culture

Middelalderfestivalen is happening in Oslo this weekend for those of you who are interested in history or modern day representations of historical time periods and event.  I have never been to this event in Oslo, but I have been to the renaissance festival in Shakopee, MN and it is amazing.  Hundreds of people in typical drakt (costume) walking around talking like they just walked out of the Renaissance period.  They even carry around mugs full of what attendees are led to believe is øl (beer), which leads some to be seemingly passed out in the shade.  It is a total riot.  I imagine the Middelalderfestival, som støttes av Oslo kommune (that is sponsored by Oslo municipality) is similar.

Middelalderfestivalen takes place in Gamlebyen (Old Town), Oslo på lørdag og søndag (on Saturday and Sunday), 19. og 20. juni-that´s this weekend from 11-8 på lørdag and 11-6 på søndag.  På programmet (on the program) is music, shows i teaterteltet (in the theater tent), and historiske omvisninger (historical tours) all day long both days.  Also on the agenda is arkeologi for barn (archeaology for kids), a sverdkamparena (sword fight arena), våpendemonstrasjoner (weapon demonstrations), bueskyting for barn (archery for kids), and vesper i Mariakirken (vespers in Maria Church).

Go to this link to find out more informasjon, se på bilder (look at pictures), finne artikkler (find articles), and most importantly, see the detailed program

Don´t forget there is a market where you can kjøpe ting (buy things) such as tekstiler (textiles) smykker (jewelry), våpen, håndverk (hand crafts), and other accessories for princesses and princes!

It sounds like a real hoot.
