What is your favorite quote from a Polish movie? Posted by Kasia on May 23, 2014 in Phrases
How many times have you said “Let the force be with you”? Or “Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re gonna get” in real life? Either seriously or as a joke…Movie quotes often “peel away” from the movie and function in every day life. There are so many great movie quotes…and of course there are many great Polish quotes from Polish movies. Here are few of my favorite ones:
❃
-Dorota! Dorota! Zaczekaj! Dokąd idziesz?! (…) Do kościoła idziesz, tak? I pewnie jeszcze do spowiedzi??
-Komuś muszę powiedzieć co czuję.
-Stoi przed tobą matka! Jeszcze się przede mną nie wyspowiadałaś, a już chcesz iść zawracać głowę wyższej instancji??
– Dorota! Dorota! Wait! Where are you going?! (…) To the church? And maybe also to confession??
– I have to tell someone how I feel.
– Your mother stand in front of you! You didn’t confess to me yet, and now you want to go bother a higher court??
❃
– Sfiksowałyście, boście chłopa dawno nie miały! Chłopa wam trzeba!
– Co to znaczy “mieć chłopa”?
– Prawdopodobnie chodzi o męską służbę domową, bardzo rozpowszechnioną w XX wieku.
– You must be crazy! You haven’t had a man in a while! You need a man!
– What does it mean “to have a man”?
– Probably a male domestic service, very common in the twentieth century
❃
– Kargul, podejdź no do płota!
– A na co?
– Podejdź, jak i ja podchodzę.
– Kargul, come to the fence!
– What for?
– Come, just like I do.
❃
– No, ubierasz się pan.
– W płaszcz – jak pada. Opłaca mi się rozbierać po śniadaniu?
– Let me tell you, mister. I have a good connection. I wake up in the morning at 2:45 am. In the summer it’s already light out. A 2:45 I’m already shaved, because I shave a night before. I eat breakfast for dinner. I just get up and leave.
– Well, you get dresses?
– Only in raincoat, if it rains. Is it worth to get undressed after breakfast?
Can you guess which movies are these quotes from? I have to say that writing this post made me really homesick…Miss Poland!
Do następnego razu… (Till next time…)
