Anti-dog mess campaign in Wrocław Posted by on Apr 28, 2012 in Culture, Current News, Nature

A noted Polish rapper has installed a sculpture of a giant dog’s mess in the south-western city of Wrocław, with the aim of prompting locals to be more conscientious about their pets.

Łukasz Rostkowski, aka L.U.C, laid the gleaming marvel on a patch of pristine grass by the city’s Dominican Square.

“Every year, dog messes pop up quicker than snowdrops,” the artist told reporters Tuesday, as quoted in the Gazeta Wyborcza daily.

“Our action is a bit of fun,” he explained.

“We want to highlight the problem through a joke, as there’s no point in doing this in a serious way,” he added.

Dealing with dog messes is no small matter in the city. Authorities have installed 1250 special bins for the excrement, collecting 143 tonnes last year. However, in spite of these bins, dog-owners often do not clean up after their pets.

The unsavoury sculpture (niesmaczna rzeźba) in not the artist’s first venture into civic affairs. The 30-year-old rapper and pop video director has also protested against the haphazard renovation of apartment blocks in the city.
