Don’t you just love rain in the middle of the summer…my girls absolutely love dancing in the rain (tańczyć w deszczu)! There is something magical about rain the summer (deszcz w lecie), summer thunderstorms (burze letnie)… Today Polish poem about rain in the summer:)

Letnia ulewa
Przed chwilą słońce.
Nagle … ulewa!
Bije o ziemię,
bije o drzewa,
na szybach dzwoni
i w rynnach śpiewa,
w kałużach pluszcze
letnia ulewa.
I znowu cicho.
Znowu pogoda.
W całym ogrodzie
kałuże, woda…
Po ścieżkach płyną
srebrne strumyki…
Prędko! Zbierajmy
leśne kamyki,
port budujmy,
gdzie płytkie morze.
Tamy stawiajmy
w ciepłym jeziorze.
Puszczajmy łodzie
z listeczków gruszy,
nim ziemię znowu
słońce osuszy…

Summer rain
A moment ago, beautiful sun.
Suddenly … a downpour!
Beats the ground,
beats by trees,
rings on the windows
and in gutters singing,
in pools of dippers
summer downpour.
And again, quiet.
Again the beautiful weather.
Throughout the garden
pools of water …
After the flow paths
silver streams …
Hurry! Let’s
pick pebbles,
let us build the port,
where shallow sea.
dams for nothing less
in the warm lake.
Let put boats
from pear leafs on the water,
Before ground will be
dried by the sun sun again …
Do następnego razu… (Till next time…)

My name is Kasia Scontsas. I grew near Lublin, Poland and moved to Warsaw to study International Business. I have passion for languages: any languages! Currently I live in New Hampshire. I enjoy skiing, kayaking, biking and paddle boarding. My husband speaks a little Polish, but our daughters are fluent in it! I wanted to make sure that they can communicate with their Polish relatives in our native language. Teaching them Polish since they were born was the best thing I could have given them!
I have been writing about learning Polish language and culture for Transparent Language’s Polish Blog since 2010.
