Hello, there!
The verb “estar” [to be] has a ton of expressions so I chose eight very interesting and useful ones to share with you today!

01. Estar a fim de fazer alguma coisa = to feel like doing something
O que você está afim de fazer hoje à noite?
What do you feel like doing tonight?
Não estou afim de fazer nada.
I don’t feel like doing anything.
02. Estar atolado de trabalho = to be swamped with work
Não vou sair para almoçar com vocês hoje. Estou atolado de trabalho!
I’m not going out for lunch with you guys today. I’m swamped with work!
Ela disse que ia se atrasar porque estava atolada de trabalho.
She said she was going to be late because she was swamped with work.
03. Estar de castigo = to be grounded / colocar de castigo = to ground someone
Não posso sair para brincar. Estou de castigo.
I can’t go out and play. I’m grounded.
Se minha mãe descobrir isso ela me coloca de castigo.
If my mom finds out about that she’ll ground me.
04. Estar de ressaca = to have a hangover
Não é de se admirar que ele esteja com uma baita ressaca. Ele bebeu uma garrafa inteira de vódka ontem à noite.
No wonder he’s got such a bad hangover. He drank a whole bottle of vodka last night.
Se você está de ressaca, é melhor tomar só água.
If you have a hangover, you should drink only water.
05. Estar (de saco) cheio de = to be fed up with; to be sick and tired of
Estou de saco cheio do barulho que esses vizinhos vêm fazendo.
I’m fed up with the noise the neighbors have been making.
Estou de saco cheio das suas desculpas esfarrapadas!
I’m sick and tired of your lame excuses!
06. Estar de volta à estaca zero = to be back to square done
Infelizmente, depois de todos os nossos esforços, estamos de volta à estaca zero.
Unfortunately, after all our efforts, we’re back to square one.
Se você não salvar esse arquivo e perder todo esse conteúdo, estaremos de volta à estaca zero.
If you don’t save this file and lose all this content, we’ll be back to square one.
07. Estar enferrujado = to be rusty (also fig.)
Meu francês está enferrujado. Preciso praticar mais.
My French is rusty. I need to practice more.
Faz tempo que não toco violão, então estou meio enferrujado.
I haven’t played the guitar for some time, so I’m kind of rusty.
08. Estar de licença maternidade = to be on maternity leave
A Susan não vai trabalhar até mês que vem. Ela está de licença maternidade.
Susan is not goint to work until next month. She’s on maternity leave.
Você não vai ter um minuto de folga durante sua licença maternidade. Os bebês consomem muito tempo.
You won’t have a single minute off during your maternity leave. Babies take up all of your time.
