Beer drinking is big in Brazil, as is bar culture in big cities. In Rio de Janeiro, for example, botecos are a fun place to have a chopp (beer on tap) and some delicious aperitivos (bar food, or appetizers) with friends.
Here’s a fun song, in the forró style, about going drinking with friends in Portuguese. The translation is Drink, Fall, and Get Up. Listen to this very catchy tune and see the lyrics below. (They tend to just repeat over and over, like any good bar song). A note about the word “simbora”: it’s a very slangy word for “embora” so the correct term is vamos embora (let’s go/let’s leave), but here he says “vamos simbora.” Also in slang, you’ll sometimes hear people say “simbora!” to mean “Let’s do it!” or “Let’s go!”
Beber, Cair e Levantar
Vamos simbora
Para um bar
Beber, cair e levantar (repeat)
Vamos simbora
Para um bar
Beber, cair, levantar
Beber, cair e levantar!
Cabra safado
Tá na zueira
Só gosta mesmo
É de mulher doideira
Mulher direita
O cara não quer
Fica com raiva
E até briga com a mulher
Eu já quis me mudar pro meu amor
Mas a cachaça me pegou
E a farra agora
É meu lugar (2x)
Mas se você quiser me acompanhar
Vou te convidar
Prá ir prá onde?
Bora bora!
