Do you ever feel nostalgic for your childhood? Você sente saudades da sua infância? Today we’re going to learn vocabulary for kids’ games. Keep in mind that the verb brincar (to play) typically applies to children while jogar (to play) often applies to games or sports, they are sometimes interchangeable. For the purposes of vocabulary, I’ve tried to use the more commonly associated verb with each game.

brincar de esconde-escode / pique-esconde – to play hide and seek

brincar de amarelinha – to play hopscotch

brincar de pega-pega – to play tag

jogar queimada – to play dodgeball

jogar altinho – to play keep-it-up

jogar bolinha de gude – to play marbles

rodar peão – to spin a top

brincar de yoyo – to play yoyo

soltar pipa – to fly a kite

pular corda – to jump rope

jogar forca – to play hangman

brincar de pique-bandeira – to play capture the flag

brincar com bolinhas de sabão – to blow bubbles

brincar de/rodar bambolê – to play hula hoop

Can you think of any others?
