Swine Flu Hits Brazil Posted by on May 11, 2009 in Brazilian News

Swine flu has officially arrived in Brazil, with eight confirmed cases. Some had all been in Mexico, the US or Europe, where they contracted the disease, while two got sick without leaving the country.

Only one of the infected patients is still in the hospital, who is being quarantined. Doctors say he will be fine. The 21 year-old was infected on a trip to Cancun.

The Brazilian government estimates another ten suspected cases of the swine flu, with an additional 25 people being monitored in ten different states. Amongst the confirmed and suspected cases, the government believes there are 6 cases in São Paulo, 3 cases in Rio de Janeiro, 1 in Minas Gerais, 1 in Paraná, 3 in D.F., 1 in Santa Catarina, 2 in Pernambuco, 1 in Ceará, and 1 in Rondônia. However, the government is confident that the disease will be contained.
