La semana pasada repasamos vocabulario sobre arte en español y hablamos de la artista mexicana Frida Kahlo. Esta semana presentaremos a Joaquín Torres García (1874-1949), pintor uruguayo-español nacido en Montevideo. Vivió cerca de Barcelona durante su vida adulta y fue contemporáneo de Pablo Picasso.
Last week we reviewed vocabulary on Spanish art and we talked about Mexican artist Frida Kahlo. This week we introduce Joaquín Torres García (1874-1949), Uruguayan-Spanish painter born in Montevideo. He lived near Barcelona during his adult life and was a contemporary of Pablo Picasso.

En 1942 comenzó el Taller Torres García. Quería enseñar una pintura estrictamente planista basada en el plano de color, la línea y la geometría, determinando la unidad de la obra por medio de una estructura realizada con la regla áurea.
In 1942 he began the Torres García Workshop. He wanted to teach a strictly Planist painting, based on the plane of color, line and geometry, determining the unity of the work by a structure made according to the golden rule.
