¡Hola, mi gente!

I decided to write a post with beginning dialogues in Spanish for our readers who don’t know much Spanish yet. Today’s topic is greetings and goodbyes.

Instead of giving you a word-by-word explanation I chose to teach you chunks of words to help you learn better, ok?

¿Están listos?

1. Dos amigos se encuentran en la parada de autobús:

Pablo: ¡Hola, Luis! ¿Qué tal?
Luis: Voy tirando, Pablo. Ya ves, corriendo como siempre, voy a la oficina, Y tú, ¿cómo estás?
Pablo: Bien, gracias. Pues yo voy a la escuela.
Luis: Vale, ahí viene mi autobús. Adiós.
Pablo: Hasta pronto.

en la parada de autobús = at the bus stop
¿Qué tal? = How are you? How’s it going?
Voy tirando = so-so
ya ves = you see
corriendo com siempre = running (busy) as always
vale = OK
ahí viene = here comes
hasta pronto = see you soon

2. El señor Jiménez y Ana se encuentran en la calle:

Ana: Buenos días, señor Jiménez. ¿Cómo está usted?
Sr. Jiménez: Regular, hija. ¿Y tú?
Ana: Muy bien, gracias. Adiós.
Sr. Jiménez: Hasta luego, niña.

en la calle = on the street
regular = so-so

3. En la plaza tomando el sol:

Antonio : Bunas tardes. ¿Qué hay?
José: Pues no estoy nada bien.
Antonio: ¿Qué te pasas, hombre?
José: Estoy fatal, no he dormido bien esta noche.
Antonio: Pues nada, ¡qué te pongas bien!

en la plaza = on the square
tomando el sol = sunbathing
no estoy nada bien = I’m not OK at all
¿Qué te pasa, hombre? = What’s wrong, man?
fatal = awful
no he dormido = I haven’t slept
esta noche – tonight
pues nada = don’t worry
¡qué te pongas bien! = I hope you feel better

4. Una pareja en la cafetería:

Fernando: ¡Hola, tesoro! ¿Cómo vas?
Julia: Estupendamente. Y ahora que te veo, mejor. ¿Y tú?, cómo lo has pasado?
Fernando: Muy bien, cariño.

una pareja = a couple
tesoro, cariño = darling, dear
¿Cómo vas? = How are you?
Estupendamente = great
Y ahora que te veo = and now that I see you
¿Cómo lo has pasado? = How have you been?
