Beginner Spanish Review Lesson 14 Spanish Verbs in the Present Tense (Part 2) Posted by on Feb 19, 2013 in Learning, Spanish Grammar, Spanish Vocabulary, Videos

¡Hola! ¿Qué tal?

Today in this Spanish review lesson we will continue practicing how to describe things that we usually do using regular Spanish verbs and the Spanish Present Tense. Specifically we will practice the different verb endings that we use for a group of people, to say that “we” (nosotros) do something, to say that “all of you” (vosotros) do something or to say that “they” (ellos) do something.

Answers to all tasks involved in this lesson will be given at the end of the post and you can also follow a link with this post to watch the original theory video lesson.

Spanish verbs in the present tense (Part 2)

1. First, let´s conjugate some Spanish verbs in the Present Tense. I will say a verb in Spanish and a person (nosotros, vosotros, ustedes, or ellos) and I would like you to conjugate the verb in the correct way for the Present Tense. For example: Comprar – Ellos: Compran:

– Hablar (ustedes)
– Escuchar (ellos)
– Vivir (ellos)
– Comprender (ustedes)
– Beber (nosotros)
– Escribir (nosotros)
– Trabajar (vosotros)
– Comprar (ellos)
– Leer (ustedes)
– Comer (vosotros)

2. Next, I will say some Spanish verbs which have already been conjugated in the Spanish Present Tense and I would like you to tell me what they mean in English. For example: “Hablamos” means “We speak”. Keep in mind that some of them could mean more than one thing:

– Escucháis
– Escribimos
– Beben
– Comemos
– Compran
– Leen
– Hablan
– Trabajamos
– Vivimos
– Comprendéis

3. Now, let´s do the same thing, reviewing also the endings for yo, tú, usted, él, and ella:

– Escribo
– Comen
– Habla
– Compráis
– Viven
– Leo
– Trabajas
– Escuchamos
– Comprende
– Bebe

4. Let´s see now if you understand these Spanish sentences:

-¿Comprendéis?
– No, no comprendemos nada.
– ¿Comen ustedes pollo?
– Sí, comemos pollo
– María y Antonio trabajan en Barcelona.

5. Now, please try to make the following sentences in Spanish:

– Do you live in Madrid? (group/friendly)
– Yes, we live in Madrid
– Do you speak Spanish? (group/formal)
– No, we don´t speak Spanish
– Pedro and Sonia buy fruit.

6. Finally, see if you understand these sentences which contain all the endings for all the persons: yo, tú, usted, él, ella, nosotros, vosotros, ustedes, ellos:

– ¿Bebes alcohol?
– No, no bebo alcohol ¿y vosotros?
– Sí, bebemos cerveza.
– Mis hermanos no comen carne.
– Mi amigo escucha música pop.

This is all for today.

As I recommended in the last practice lesson, try to memorize these endings well. They are very important. We will soon be seeing many more Spanish verb endings and the quicker you start familiarizing yourself with each set of endings the better.

See you next time with more interactive Spanish practice.

¡Hasta luego!
