¡Hola! ¿Cómo estáis?

Today we are going to practice how to manage speaking Spanish when buying food in a shop or street market.

Prices and shopping for food in Spanish

1. First, let’s see if you know what these Spanish words mean:

– Carne
– Lácteos
– Plátano
– Manzana
– Pollo
– Atún
– Cerdo
– Zanahoria
– Cebolla
– Huevos

2. Next, please translate the following food vocabulary to Spanish:

– Fruit
– Fish
– Cod
– Lettuce
– Potatoes
– Sardines
– Yoghurts
– Tomato
– Cheese
– Orange

3. Now, let´s practice measuring food in Spanish. Please tell me what these quantities of food are:

– Un kilo de manzanas
– Un cuarto de libra de queso
– Trescientos gramos de sardinas
– Una docena de huevos
– Una bolsa de patatas

4. Next, imagine you are in a shop and ask for the following things in Spanish:

– One pound of tomatoes
– ½ Kilo of carrots
– A can of tuna
– A bottle of milk
– A chunk of cheese

5. How do you ask for the total price in Spanish when you are about to pay?

6. Let´s see if you understand these prices in Spanish:

– Tres euros con cuarenta
– Veinte dólares con noventa
– Setenta céntimos
– Sesenta centavos
– Once euros con treinta

7. Now, please say the following prices in Spanish:

– 5.50€
– $9.75
– $2.20
– 50 cent of dollar
– 75 cent of euro

8. Finally, please tell me what these useful Spanish phrases mean:

– ¿Algo más?
– Nada más
– Aquí tiene

There is a lot of food vocabulary and many useful phrases to remember. In my opinion, the best way to learn words related to your food shopping is by making your weekly shopping list in Spanish. Then, you will review the food you usually buy every week and eventually you will remember it well.
