Beginner Spanish Review Lesson 31 Practicing using the Spanish future tense Posted by on Jun 11, 2013 in Learning, Spanish Grammar, Spanish Vocabulary, Videos

Hola ¿Qué tal?

In this Spanish lesson we are going to practice describing future plans in Spanish with the Spanish future tense that uses the structure: El verbo Ir (the verb To go) followed by “a” (to) and a verb in the infinitive.

Answers to all tasks involved in this lesson will be given at the end of the post and you can also follow a link with this post to watch the original theory video lesson on the same topic.

Practicing using the Spanish future tense

1. Let´s see first if you remember how to conjugate the verb To go – El verbo Ir – in Present Tense. I will say a person (yo, tú, él, etc) and I would like you to try to conjugate the verb correctly: (For example: Ellos – Van)

Ella
Nosotros
Usted
Vosotros
Yo
Ellos

Ustedes

2. Now, let´s see if you understand these sentences in the Spanish future tense:

Vamos a comer en la casa de mi abuela.
¿Vas a estudiar ahora?
Mi hermano va a trabajar mañana.
¿Vais a salir esta noche?
Voy a ver la televisión luego.

3. Next, try to construct the following sentences in Spanish using the Spanish future tense structure: Ir + a + infinitive:

I am going to cook.
We are going to visit Ana.
Are you coming with us? (one person/friendly)
Our sister is working on Sunday.
They are going to the beach tomorrow.

4. Tell me now what these various useful phrases mean in Spanish:

Más tarde
Esta tarde
Este fin de semana
Pasado mañana
La semana que viene
El próximo mes

5. Finally, tell me if these Spanish sentences are in the present or future tense:

Vamos a la playa los sábados.
Voy a escuchar música esta tarde
Ellos van a comprar libros luego.
¿Vas a la casa de tus padres todos los domingos?
Voy a Alicante a menudo.

Esto es todo por hoy.

As you see, it is quite easy to talk about the future in Spanish. Make sure you remember to add the preposition “a” after the conjugation of El verbo Ir. Also bear in mind that when a native speaker talks you might not hear the “a” clearly, but it will be there. For example, if you want to say that you are going to eat, you will say “voy a comer” but a native speaker won´t separate the words so clearly and will say “voya comer”.

Nos vemos pronto con más clases de español.
