Hola ¿Cómo estáis?

Today we are going to practice how to give orders and instructions and make suggestions using regular and irregular Spanish Imperatives.

Answers to all tasks involved in this lesson will be given at the end of the post and you can also follow a link with this post to watch the original theory video lesson on the same topic.

To go back and watch the original video lesson please follow this link:

Practice regular and irregular Spanish Imperatives

1. First, let´s practice making regular Spanish imperatives. I will say a verb and a person (tú, vosotros, usted or ustedes) and I would like you to try to conjugate the verb correctly: (For example: Tú / hablar– Habla):

Correr / usted
Cantar / vosotros
Escribir / Tú
Leer / ustedes
Trabajar /usted
Subir / tú

2. Now I will say some regular Spanish imperatives and I would like you to say to which person I am saying it (tú, vosotros, usted or ustedes):

Beba
Comed
Salta
Pregunten
Responde
Escriba

3. Let´s practice now making irregular Spanish imperatives. I will say a verb and a person (tú, vosotros, usted or ustedes) and I would like you to try to conjugate the verb correctly: (For example: Usted / decir– diga):

Venir / tú
Poner / vosotros
Hacer /usted
Ir / Tú
Oir / ustedes
Tener/ usted

4. Now I will say some irregular Spanish imperatives and I would like you to say to which person I am saying it (tú, vosotros, usted or ustedes):

Salgan
Ven
Oye
Haga
Id
Pongan

5. Finally, please tell me the five different uses of the Imperative in Spanish:

Esto es todo por la clase de hoy.

Imperative endings can be a bit difficult to remember and confusing at first, but we use them a lot in Spanish so it is very important for you to know them well. Revise the theory video lesson a few times and watch this new video as many times as you can until you feel fully confident. Also, if you have Spanish textbooks, check the instructions in some of the exercises, most of the time you will find imperatives in them such as “responde” “escribe” or “lee”.
