Happy Friday! Today we continue with emotions in Spanish. We will use this video by Alberto Calzadiaz. (English translation below)

What are the emotions?

Every day we are surrounded by a number of situations that generate a response in us, such as: hearing a joke, watching a fight, meeting someone new or sitting an exam.
Emotions are natural reactions of the organism. We could say that they are inside answers to events outside.
We recognize them by various changes in our body, such as a huge smile when something happens that makes us feel very happy; or when something displeases us or bothers us, you can see a frown because we are very angry.
Or when we are watching a very melancholy film, it can be reflected in our tears, as the film makes us feel sad.
According to several authors, there are eight basic emotions. These emotions are:

  • Happiness
  • Sadness
  • Anger
  • Surprise
  • Shame
  • Fear
  • Disgust
  • Love

But how do emotions show?
To explain it, I will tell you the story of my friend Eric.
Eric is a 16 year old boy. As anyone his age, he loves music, spending time with friends and going to the movies occasionally. He is Eric.
On that day, Eric was playing soccer with his friends on a field near his house. Eric had a huge smile because he was happy.
Eric was very focused on the game, when suddenly he realized that by the field there was Rosy.
Rosy is a girl from Eric’s school, and Eric loves her.
Eric stopped playing for a moment and went to talk to Rosy. Then all his friends began to laugh at them. They made jokes and comments that were uncomfortable to Eric, so he felt ashamed. This was reflected by his red cheeks.
Eric’s friends continued bothering him until Rosy left. Then Eric changed completely. He got angry, frowning. He decided to go for a walk to let off the anger.
Without realizing it, it was night. The park was completely dark and he could barely see where he was going. Then he thought he heard footsteps behind him. Eric began to feel afraid, because he thought someone was following him. That was reflected in his facial expression, showing fear.
Suddenly, he realized that he was being followed by just a puppy, so he relaxed. Eric was relieved. Then when the dog approached, it began cuddling him in the leg. Suddenly, the dog pissed on Eric’s leg. Eric felt disgusted.
Certainly, this was not really a good day for our friend Eric, so when he went home, he felt very sad.
He could only think that his friends had teased him and a dog had urinated on his shoe.
When he got home, he found Rosy, who made Eric feel surprised. Eric did not expect Rosy at home. So Rosy invited him to go out together the next day. Eric felt very happy again.
As you can see, Eric went through the eight basic emotions in one day. This was the emotional experience of Eric. But you, how do you live the emotions?
