¡Hola!

Empezamos septiembre con una lista muy útil de palabras y expresiones relacionadas al dinero. ¿Están listos?

Moneda corriente – currency
El guaraní es la moneda corriente en Paraguay. [The guaraní is the currency in Paraguay.]

Prestar – to lend
¿Podrías prestarme cincuenta pesos? Te los devuelvo mañana. [Can you lend me fifty pesos? I’ll pay you back tomorrow.]

Tasa de cambio – exchange rate
Mejor esperar que la tasa de cambio nos sea más favorable. Si cambiamos ahora, vamos a perder dinero. [Let’s wait for a more favorable exchange rate. If we exchange it now we’ll lose money.]

Préstamo – loan
Saldar / liquidar – to pay off
Los Rodríguez quieren pedir un préstamo para liquidar sus deudas. [The Rodriguez are considering getting a bank loan to pay off their debts.]

Cuenta de ahorro – savings account
¿Ya pensaste en abrir una cuenta de ahorro? [Have you thought of opening a savings account?]

Cuenta corriente – current account

Extender un cheque – to make out a check

Cheque nominativo – order check
¿Podría extenderme un cheque nominativo para “Santos & Hijos Ltda”, por favor? [Could you write an order check for “Santos & Hijos Ltda”, please?]

Cheque conformado – certified check
Si no confías en el comprador, pídele un cheque conformado. [If you don’t trust the buyer, ask him for a certified check.]

Cajero automático – ATM
¿Sabes si hay un cajero automático aquí cerca? [Is there an ATM around here?]

Sacar / retirar dinero – to withdraw money
Tengo que sacar / retirar dinero de mi cuenta para hacer unos pagos. [I have to withdraw money to make some payments.]

Rebotar – to bound
Me rebotaron este cheque. [This check bounced.]

Cheque sin fondos – bounced check
Los bancos suelen cobrar por cheques sin fondos. [Banks usually charge for bounced checks.]

Hacer un giro electrónico – to make a wire transfer
Puedes pagar en efectivo, con cheque o hacer un giro electrónico, lo que te venga mejor. [You can pay in cash, by check or make a wire transfer, whatever you prefer.]

Hacer efectivo un cheque – to cash a check
Tengo que ir al banco a hacer efectivo un cheque. [I need to go to a bank to cash this check.]

Bolsa de valores – stock exchange, stock market
Javier invierte la mayor parte de su dinero en la bolsa de valores. [Javier has most of his money invested in the stock exchange.]

Acciones – stocks
Comprar acciones puede ser arriesgado si no sabes como funciona la bolsa de valores. [Buying stocks can be a risky business if you don’t know how the stock market works.]
