Most Popular Spanish Songs of 2021 Posted by on Dec 8, 2021 in Music, Spanish Culture

It’s hard to believe, but another year is winding down. ¡El tiempo vuela! (Time flies!). I hope all of our readers had a great year. My year was pretty amazing, mostly because of the return of música en vivo (live music). Fui a muchos conciertos y festivales de música este año (I went to many concerts and music festivals this year). I also discovered a lot of new music, including plenty of songs that help me study Spanish. As I love to do at the end of every year, I’m going to show you some of the most popular Spanish songs of 2021.

Bad Bunny x Jhay Cortez – Dákiti

I know this song made the list last year, but it has every right to claim the top spot in 2021. It sat at the top of the Billboard Hot Latin Songs chart from the beginning of the year until May 22nd. Actually, it was a hit all over the world, spending a few weeks at the top of the Global 200 chart. Bad Bunny also took home a bunch of awards for the song, including Canción del Año (Song of the Year) at the Latin Music Awards in September.

Y a vece’ e’ Dolce, a vece’ Bulgari

Baby, a ti no me opongo

Baby, a ti no me opongo
Y siempre te lo pongo (-pre te lo pongo)
Y si tú me tira’, vamo’ a nadar en lo hondo (Nadar en lo hondo)
Si es por mí te lo pongo
De septiembre hasta agosto

Farruko – Pepas

The song “Pepas” by Puerto Rican singer Farruko has been at the top of the Billboard Hot Latin chart since August 28th. It’s definitely a party song, as the name means “pills” and it’s about living in the moment and partying ’til the break of dawn. The music video is pretty wild with a rave in the desert full of pyrotechnics. See for yourself then continue to read the lyrics and try a sing-along.

Bebiendo, fumando y jodiendo

Kali Uchis is an American singer and songwriter from a Colombian background. She sings in both English and Spanish, including in this popular song from her album Sin Miedo (del Amor y Otros Demonios). The name of the album means “Without Fear (of Love or Other Demons)” and the song title means “Telepathy.” The artist directed the music video herself, which was shot in her father’s hometown of Pereira, Colombia. This song beat out the above two to take home the Favorite Latin Song award at this year’s American Music Awards.

You know I’m just a flight a way
If you wanted you can take a private plane
Al kilómetros estamos conectando
y me prendes, aunque no me estés tocando
You know I got a lot to say
all these voices in the background of my brain

You know that I can see right through you
I can read your mind
I can read your mind
What you want to do
It’s written all over your face times two
Cause I can read your mind
I can read your mind

I can hear your thoughts like a melody
Listen while you talk when you’re fast asleep
You stay on the phone just to hear me breathe
On repeat

(You know I got a lot to say
all these voices in the background of my brain)
