Welcome to a new blog! Today you will practice your listening and reading skills with Oda a la manzana, a poem written by the acclaimed Chilean poet at writer Pablo Neruda. This poem is part of a collection of odes Neruda wrote between 1954 and 1957. It is a reflection of the poet’s dream for a united and peaceful world. A ti, manzana,                                                                                  To you, apple
quiero celebrarte                                                                             I’d like to celebrate you
llenándome                                                                                      by filling
con tu nombre                                                                                  with your name
la boca,                                                                                              my mouth,
comiéndote.                                                                                      eating you
Siempre                                                                                             Always
eres nueva como nada                                                                    you’re new like nothing
o nadie,                                                                                             or nobody
siempre                                                                                             always
recién caída                                                                                      newly fallen
del Paraíso:                                                                                      from Paradise:
plena                                                                                                  full
y pura                                                                                                and pure
mejilla arrebolada                                                                          reddened cheeks
de la aurora!                                                                                    of dawn!
Qué difíciles                                                                                    How difficult
son                                                                                                    are
comparados                                                                                    compared

los frutos de la tierra,                                                                    the fruits of the earth,
las celulares uvas,                                                                          the cellular grapes,
los mangos                                                                                      the gloomy

tú eres pomada pura,                                                                   you are pure ointment,
pan fragante,                                                                                 fragrant bread,

Cuando mordemos                                                                       When we bite
tu redonda inocencia                                                                   your round innocence
volvemos                                                                                        we return
por un instante                                                                             for a moment
a ser                                                                                                 to being
también recién creadas criaturas:                                            also recently created creatures:
aún tenemos algo de manzana.                                                we still partake something of an apple.
Yo quiero                                                                                       I want
